Daniela Addis, CAMP Otranto Project National Coordinator for Italy presented the CAMP Otranto project as an example of transboundary implementation of the ICZM Protocol and MSP in the Adriatic area at the Forum which was organised by Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Commission in Sarajevo on 25 May 2023.
Daniela highlighted that transboundary cooperation represents one of the main components of the project as well as of the EUSAIR Strategy. Explaining the main results of CAMP Otranto CAMP in:
- Identifying and testing ad hoc tools and methodologies for ICZM, considering transboundary areas, and including MSP as the main tool/process for implementing ICZM in the marine part of the coastal zone
- Supporting sustainable coastal activities, including nature conservation, tourism, fishing, maritime transport and economic activities that generate marine pollution, with a focus on preventing marine litter
- Strengthening the capacities and skills of national/local administrations for sustainable coastal and marine management through the exchange of experiences and collaboration between Albania and Italy in the implementation of ICZM and MSP
- Raising awareness and dissemination of lessons learned through workshops and training courses in Vlora and Puglia regions on the concepts of ICZM/MSP, the role of ecotourism in the Vlora region, the use of data management (including the IMAP Info system) and the importance of working with local communities to adopt new practices to fish for marine litter and improve waste management.
