Exploring the potential of ICZM and MSP in Tirana

COAST DAY-23

Forging a Sustainable Path for Transboundary Practices

The next event in the series of our CAMP Otranto autumn training series will be held in Tirana on 8 November 2023. It will focus on the key ICZM and MSP concepts, underpinning the role of transboundary collaboration in sustainable coastal and marine management.

The training session will be tailored to the needs of local stakeholders and will be an opportunity to present the relevant data and legal frameworks needed for designing future coastal and marine interventions.

Speakers include Adelina Greca, Director of the National Agency on Territorial Planning in Albania, who will present the existing legal framework related to coastal spatial planning in the Vlora region.

Rezart Kapedani, the National expert on EU Acquis, and Fiona Mali, one of the CAMP Otranto project experts for MSP, will showcase the work undertaken to start the MSP process in Albania.

Since Albania initiated accession negotiations with the European Union (EU) in 2022, it is obliged to incorporate EU Directives into its national legislation. In line with a unified approach to Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) within the framework of the Barcelona Convention, Albania is intensifying its efforts to align its legal and policy framework with MSP. These two experts will present the Concept Paper on MSP as one of the key project studies, highlighting the interaction of existing activities and their future advancements.

As an example of best practice, training participants will be able to learn about the MSP framework in Italy and discuss how to develop transboundary synergies – the leading idea of the CAMP Otranto project.
